Our Anticipation for the New Year...

Happy New Year! At Kabbalah Children's Academy, we are growing! The air of excitement permeates throughout the school.

As we prepare for 2010 - 2011, we proudly announce that Kabbalah Children's Academy will add a Middle School component to our school with the addition of a 7th grade class. The following school year (2011 - 2012), we will add an 8th grade class to our Middle School. During this time, we will build a new Science Lab as well as upgrade our facilities in general, especially in our Computer Lab. We met with an architect who specifically designs schools and started preparing a long-range plan for further growth of the Kabbalah Children's Academy.

But first, let us review the previous month at KCA. The students celebrated Chanukah with many programs. The “Half Hour Chanukah Program” under the direction of Leslie Sumerville, Nick George, Yael Mansheroff and others kicked off the celebration with music and, thanks to Ariel Gabbai, a video thumbnail of the KCA experience. It was a great evening and our children were fantastic. As the week continued, students enthusiastically participated in many programs at both campuses, including student workshops on cooking and baking, candle making, Chanukiyah building and video computer programs. Rabbi Yehuda Berg highlighted the celebration with a Devra Torah and the lighting of the Chanukiyah.

As well as looking forward to completing an exciting school year, we proudly look ahead to the upcoming school year 2010 - 2011. Our students are making great progress in their studies. Our teachers are participating in professional development programs. One area is the development of a writing program to enhance our Day School. The “Writer's Workshop” pro-gram, under the guidance of Natalie Irons from UCLA Center X, develops strategies and skills that can be utilized in all subject areas from General Studies to Judaic Studies.

Check your mail! Shortly, we will be sending out registration forms for next year. Again we, at KCA, thank you for the opportunity to provide your children with an excellent educational program.

“My winter break vacation...”

My Mom and Dad went out of town, but I was ok. I went to Toppings one day and Munchies another. I went to a place like a fair, too. I won four prizes. One of them was a Bear; another was a Dog, and there were two others, one of a Dolphin and an-other of a Tiger. I also saw three movies on my break—Old Dogs, The Princess and the Frog, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. I read every night in Eng-lish and Hebrew, and later my Mom came back into town. But now, my winter break is over.

Michael Atzmon

During my fun winter break, I went to the beach; I rode on my scooter; and, the beach was beautiful, nice, not sunny but it was still beautiful. We went on the swings, and we ran and played so many games!! The next day I went to Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squekquel, and it was fun and awesome to watch! The following day, I went to the JCC to go to classes which were so much fun. The following day, I went to the beach again. I played football with my brother, and I rode on my brother's bike. I rode it into the alley. It was a busy break.

Rachelle Kelman

On my break I watched two movies. The movies I watched were The Princess and the Frog and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. It was so awesome! They were really good movies, and some of them were funny. I also cut my hair, which now seems different than it was before I got it done. I was a little sad because Rachel was in Boca, and she's my best friend. I also went to the JCC's camp. That was pretty fun. The first week I was there, I was with Esther Dahan. The second week Estee Arnan joined us as well. Almost every day of the second week I went to Estee Arnan's house. We painted jellyfish and splattered them, which I loved. We also made jellyfish at the JCC. The jelly-fish we made at the JCC were different than the ones we made at Estee's house. Guess what? I don't remember anything else. I hope you had a great holiday, too.

My winter break was the best because it was so hot. Winter break was as hot as summer break. Also, a lot of good movies came out like The Princess and the Frog and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. I saw both of them, and I loved them both. Also, I went to karate camp. In karate camp we do karate for one hour. Then, we went ice skating. The ice skating rink we went to was in Santa Monica. I slipped on the ice and fell on my bot-tom. I was wet for a long time. Then, we went to Starbucks. My sister and I got a vanilla steamer. It was so good. It tasted like vanilla ice cream. I had the best winter break.

Miriam Spokojny

When I was on winter break, I saw many great movies like Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Squeakuel and The Princess and the Frog. They were the best movies I've seen in a long time. I enjoyed them very much. Then, I went ice skating almost every day until the end of my winter break. When it was Shabbat I was so excited because I could see my friends. I watched some T.V; I played Mario Brothers with my dad; and, I was the cute little mushroom. I had some sleepovers, and we had so much fun. That is what I did on my winter break.

Jacob Friend

For my winter vacation, I went to San Diego. We stayed at a hotel called the Sheraton, and it was fun. We went to Lego Land, where I went on the boats and a dragon ride, and then I built Lego's. Also, I went to the wild park where we fed the giraffes. I was able to drive go-carts at K-1 racing. Then, we went to Sea World where I saw dolphins, whales, fish and polar bears. Then, I fell asleep in the car, and I woke up when we were home. That's all I did for my vacation.
